Abstract Open – 1st February 2026

Material deemed appropriate for presentation before the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery will have the following characteristics:

  1. 1. Original, new and significant scientific work.
  2. 2. Major updates and/or significant follow-up on established procedures and/or research.
  3. 3. Additional definition of previous studies that modify in a major way an understanding of techniques or technologies.
  4. 4. Work with a strong, practical and validated educational component, including ways to enable adoption, safe learning curve and progress in practice, as well as strategies to enhance the reproducibility and quality of minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
  5. 5. The submitted Abstract should not be similar to work submitted to, or under consideration by. other organizations and/or journals.

Abstract Preparation & Submission Instructions

  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically at www.SMICTSI.org. The deadline is Thursday, 30 April - 2026.
  • The Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery strives to be paperless. By submitting an abstract or video for consideration, you grant SMICTSI the right to record your session and provide and release associated presentation files in electronic format through the conference mobile app, the SMICTSI website and/or any SMICTSI media partners.
  • Total abstract word limit is 350 words. There is a minimum word limit of 50 words. One table,
  • Abstracts may be submitted for any of the following presentation formats:
  1. 1. Oral presentation (full-length or mini, at the discretion of the program committee)
  2. 2. Video presentation (including sample of the video)
  3. 3. Poster presentation & competition
  4. 4. Display poster
  • Type the text of the abstract in English within the box provided. The abstract title must be in title case, flush with the left margin of the box. The title should be no longer than 125 characters. including spaces; do not use abbreviations in the title
  • Author blocks must be submitted with the authors' full names, including the middle initial, WITHOUT academic degrees, and each authors' university/hospital affiliation.
  • All abstracts must be structured using the following section headings:
  1. 1. Objective: A brief statement of the purpose of the study, and the current state of research
  2. 2. or education research in the field.
  3. 3. Methods: The methods of study or the experimental/educational approach clearly, but briefly defined.
  4. 4. Results: The methods of study or the experimental/educational approach clearly, but briefly defined.
  5. 5. Conclusions: A statement concerning the significance of the work and its possible implications for future research.

Submitters should avoid abbreviations as much as possible. When abbreviations are necessary. authors must define them at first mention in text, and in each table and figure. If a brand name is cited, supply the manufacturer's name and address (city, state, country).


One table (submitted as a Word document) or figure may be used within your abstract. Digital art should be created/scanned, saved and submitted as a TIFF, PowerPoint or JPEG. Electronic photographs, CT scans, and scanned images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). Line art must have a resolution of at least 1200 dpi. Do not add any lettering to the figures.


Include a title for the table, and a legend for each figure in the provided box. Cite figures consecutively in the text, and number them in the order in which they are discussed.


Do not use trademark or registry symbols: TM or R in the litle, the text of the abstract, or on tables/figures.


Avoid spelling mistakes, as the abstracts will be published as you have submitted.


No reference should be made on or in the abstract to the names or institutions of the authors.


To comply with the Standards of Commercial Support of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Product names may not be included in the title or body of the abstract, or the abstract may be disqualified. Please use generic, non-commercial, names for all therapeutic agents.


Accepted abstracts will be published in the official ISMICS journal, INNOVATIONS, as submitted.


Acceptance of an abstract by the Program Committee for oral or video presentation at the Annual Meeting signifies the author(s) have given permission, pending editorial review, for this abstract to be reproduced in the official ISMICS professional journal and available on the ISMICS website.


If the abstract is accepted for oral or poster competition presentation at the meeting, manuscript submission to Innovations is REQUIRED by May 30, 2026.


Decisions of the Program Committee will be made known to all Presenting Authors by email after the first week of February 2026. It is the responsibility of the Presenting Author to notify all co-authors of the Program Committee's decision.
